Facts and Events
Until now it is not yet certain who Charles Halsey's parents were, but there is an important indication. John Edwin Cussans, History of Hertfordshire. Vol. 3 (reprint; Wakefield: E.P. Publishing, 1972), p. 123, gives a pedigree in which are mentioned four children of: Decimus Halsey, baptized 9 April 1704 at Great Gaddesden, County of Hertfordshire, England; in China, 1720; London, 1722, India, 1725; Hamburg, 1727, when he joined his brother Charles as merchant there, who returned to London on death of his brother Henshaw; d[ied] 24th Dec. 1768; bur[ried] in St. Michael’s Church, Hamburg. Decimus Halsey married [1st] Theresa, da[ughter] of -- Trewell of Bristol, Esq.; d[ied] 7 Sep. 1755; 1st wife; issue, George; Mary. Decimus Halsey married [2nd] Elizabeth Herrern, of Mollhagen, Holstein; 2nd wife. The four children from this second wife were: 1. John Halsey, born in Hamburg 20 April 1760; emigrated to Boston, U.S.; died at Brooklyn, New York, 1845; married Anna, daughter of Col. Crafts, of U.S. Army; married at Boston, U.S., 12 July, 1794; died at New York 1814. Children: a. John Halsey; b. William Halsey; c. Charles Halsey; d. Anne, married in New York, to -- Rosenbaum, Esq.; e. Julie, ob. innup. at New York; f-g-h-i-j five children, died young. 2. Charles-Hermann Halsey. 3. Thomas Halsey. 4. Elisabeth Lucia. This Charles-Hermann Halsey was most probably the same person as "our" Charles Herman Halsey, who died in Philadelphia, PA. Can any one of the readers confirm this supposition? References
