Died at age 65 of typhoid fever. [Diane Wilson Flynn]. A post rider in his youth, later a farmer.

There is no definitive proof of the ancestry of Moses Gunn, Sr. of Vermont (Charles's father), although a family letter in the possession of William V. Gehrlein claims a Scottish origin (possible but unlikely). Gunns from Scotland and Ireland were beginning to arrive in America, but the majority of Gunns early into the Onondaga area of New York were descendants of Thomas Gunn (b. 1605), Gunns of English origin.

Charles Gunn, Sr. was reputedly a post rider in his youth, later a farmer. [Information from Diane Wilson Flynn in Gunn Family on Genealogy Forum.]

There is no conclusive evidence that this Charles Gunn fought in the War of 1812, either in New York or in Ohio.

Charles was 65 years of age when he died of typhoid fever. http://www.interment.net/data/us/ny/onondaga/howlett_hill/index.htm

"The pension papers [of John Pettibone] mention a Moses GUNN [the relationship not stated, but he was Charles's brother], who deposed that Charity's mother had died on the date specified, and a Joel CORNISH [who married Susannah Lorinda PETTIBONE, Charity's sister]." 8.   There has been much speculation, but no credible evidence that the family of Moses Gunn Sr of Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont, is connected with other Gunn families in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Before the 2015 discovery of the “Power of Attorney signed by the heirs of Moses Gunn, deceased” by Diane Wilson Flynn among the Deeds of Shaftsbury, no public record which confirmed the family record possessed by William V Gehrlein had been found.
