When Cecilia first went to school in Saskatchewan she could speak little English as German was her families native language. She had a happy childhood on the farm. Cecilia left home when she was 24 to move to Frankford, Ontario.

Cecilia moved to Chalk River to work in food services for the Nuclear Industry. This is where she met George Read. They moved to be closer to her Mother and family. George and Cecilia married in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
