Notes from R. Baker: "Fred went by either C. F. Baker or Fred Baker. . . he hated the name Cecil. He and Margaret lived in Kansas City, Kansas from the time they were married until they moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan in March, 1978. They moved to be near their son and his family.

"Fred left the family farm when he was about 21 years old. He moved to Kansas City and was in business with his brother Oscar. They had a business delivering Coal to houses in the winter, and ice in the summer. Their brother John Walter Clyde (known as Pete) also moved to Kansas City later and joined them for a short while. Fred left the business with Oscar and worked of AC Cooke Company delivering Coal…then ice. In the late 30’s he went to work for Federal Cold Storage (also known as City Ice and Fuel) He worked producing ice in their plant, icing box cars for produce shipment and finally delivering ice. He worked for this company in various jobs until he retired at age 65. In 1945 he suffered two very severe cerebral hemorrhage and came close to death. While he was laid up, Margaret took a job to keep family income coming. Fred recovered and was fine. However, during his 64th year he had several sudden “black out” experiences. On one of these occasions he was driving the car into a car wash area, blacked out and nearly totaled the car. From that time on, he never drove again. Margaret was the driver thereafter for going to and from work as well as all vacation trips."
