Facts and Events
Catherine (Ronau) Mockensturm passed away peacefully on March 4, 2006, just two weeks short of her 88th birthday. Catherine was born on March 16, 1918 in Toledo, OH. Her parents, Henry and Anna Ronau; husband, Bernard; sister, Lucille Gramling; brothers, Lawrence Ronau, Clarence Ronau and Bill Ronau, and grandson, Jackie Mockensturm, preceded her in death. She leaves behind a large extended family including her sons, Carl (Gerri) and Paul (Sue Ann); her daughters, Elisabeth (Dave) Fleck and Rita Bayer; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Edward (Mary Jane) Ronau and her sisters, Ruth (Bill) Harvey, Rose Mockensturm, and Mary Rockow. She will also be fondly remembered by many close friends and former daughter-in-law, Carol Haas. Everyone who knew Catherine would agree that she was the life of the party. Even though she slowed down during the last few years, her zest for life remained vibrant. Her smile was bright and her laughter contagious. In fact, it is hard to imagine the world without her distinct laugh and always-sunny disposition. When her grandchildren were young, she and her husband loved to dress up as Santa and Mrs. Claus and entertain everyone with games and other activities. Her friends and family will miss being on the losing end of a good game of euchre or pinochle. Catherine's greatest love was her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and they all loved spending time with "Grandma Kate." She was a wise and gentle matriarch who welcomed everyone into her home and family. She was also a woman of strong faith and was very active in her church throughout her life. Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street in Maumee on Monday March 6, 2006, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. where Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Internment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A Scripture Service will be held on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The family requests that any expressions of sympathy be made in her name to St. Joan of Arc Church, the American Cancer Society or the donor's charity of choice.
