The Catherine Pence who married Jacob Persinger was the widow of Jacob Pence of Augusta County, VA, who died before February of 1750/51 when his brother Valentine gave bond as the executor of his will.

Catherine - sometimes Maria or Mary Catherine - and Jacob Pence were probably married in Pennsylvania, perhaps Lancaster County, where three of their children were apparently born in Lancaster County. Her maiden name is unknown. Both Jacob Pence and his wife may have been born in Germany.

Catherine's son Jacob Pence, married Catherine, daughter of Jacob Persinger and his first wife. Catherine's daughter, Barbara Pence, married Christian Persinger, son of Jacob and his first wife. The Persingers were also in Pennsylvania before moving to Augusta County and Jacob's first wife and some of his children were supposedly killed or captured by Indians.

Jacob Persinger and Catherine (------) Pence were married by about 1760 and sometime after 1763 they moved to Botetourt County. in February of 1763, Jacob Persinger brought suit in Augusta County on behalf of his "infant" daughter (meaning she was not yet of age) Catherine against Jacob Pence (Jr.) for breach of promise. The two were apparently then promptly married for that same month Anna Maria, daughter of Jacob Pence and Catherine ("nee Persinger" in the record) was baptized at Peaked Mountain Church in Augusta County.

There is a Persinger family web site which can give you additional information on him and his family. I was quite unaware of the possibility that he had any children by Catherine, his second wife.
