Catherine Kenny was born in about 1846 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, daughter of Mary Kenny, formerly O'Hare, and her husband Francis (Frank) Kenny, a general grocer and labourer. Catherine appears to have been the couple's first child born in England; they had married and had their first two children in County Down in Ireland. Catherine appears in the 1851 census living with her parents and siblings at 16 St Ann Street in Birkenhead. In 1859 Catherine's mother died.
The 1861 census finds Catherine living at 31 St Ann Street, which was probably the same house as 16 St Ann Street from ten years earlier - the street appears to have been renumbered so that instead of numbers running consecutively along each side the houses on one side were odd and the other side even. Catherine's father died in 1865.
The 1871 census finds Catherine and her brothers John and Henry living at 195 Eccleston Terrace, which appears to have been a row of houses on Market Street. Catherine was described as "brothers housekeeper". Lodging with them was a couple named Dennis and Catherine Kelly. Catherine and her brother John continued to live with the Kelly family, appearing with them in each census from 1881 to 1901 too, but described as the Kellys' lodgers.
Catherine has yet to be traced after 1901.
