Notes

  • Foster is the name that appears in records sent to Ruth Rene Phelan by Mitchell Smith. Fay Chandler from Washington State also sent her family information listing Catharina's name as Foster.
  • Family tradition has it that she was a "bound girl" and that Philip's family did not approve of the match. Perhaps that disapproval caused Philip to leave home and move on to Broome Co. NY.
