Person:Caswell Harris (1)

Caswell was the Black Sheep of the Family. Family stories say he was always ready to fight. His brother John bit off part of his ear lobe in a fight and I understand Caswell took him to court. At any rate after the death of Levina, Caswell (they called him Bob) got into a fight with a man and killed him. There are several stories about the event... some say he left his 2 children in his wagon at the train station. There was a trial and the death was ruled self-defense, but he never knew the verdict. Dad had me looking in Indiana when I lived there for him (Tipton Co.). Others tell me there was a letter to the Harris boys from his widow (2nd wife) asking some of them to come to TX to run a 500 ac. cotton ranch in exchange for the land after her death. There is more but I'll send you that at a later date. Jimmy Sue Rogers (direct line of John Henry and Eliza Jane) say there was a man who lived near them who was Caswell Harris (changed his name). His family said "no way".
