Facts and Events
From Margaret Johnson 17 March 2004: "According to newspaper articles, When Edwin Betts (Jacob & Anna's child and my GG grandfather) died (March 4, 1920), his obituary listed one survivor as sister Caroline Hitchcock of Washington. Anna Betts' obit (August 9, 1923) lists a surviving daughter as Caroline Dickerson of Sandefuca, Washington." I tried to find Caroline in the 1880 census. Couldn't find her as "Caroline Hitchcock" or as "Caroline Dickerson". Couldn't find her in 1910 either. In the 1920 census, I find her on San de Fuca Island, in Washington State as Caroline Dickerson, born Illinois; she's 60 and divorced, with son Walter, 23 and single; father born Bavaria (crossed out and replaced with "New York"-- the first was right); mother born Bavaria. Walter was born in Illinois (abt. 1897), so we should find them back in Illinois, at least in 1900. I looked at all male Dickersons in Cook, McHenry and Kane Counties and could not find them in 1900 or 1910. Action: look for Illinois marriages in about 1879 through the mid 1890s: Caroline Betz/Betts to a Dickerson There is an Annie Caroline Betz who marries 4 Oct 1890 Gust. L. Young in Cook Co.
