Carl W. Kenly was born May 15, 1923, in Latrobe, a son of Peter and Nellie (Loughner) Kenly.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1945, while stationed in Panama, Bill managed and played on the Marines' fast pitch softball team and coached and played on the Marines' championship volleyball team.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by Teledyne Vasco.
Bill had also been active in local sports. He managed men's softball in the 1960s, while coaching six championship and five grand championship teams. He managed four championship Little League teams and helped organize Latrobe Midget Football in 1967 and also served as an assistant coach.
He was a member of American Legion Post #515, F.O.E. #01188, Frontier Club and Company One Firemen's Club, all of Latrobe. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
At the age of 84, Carl W. "Snapper""Bill" Kenly, of Latrobe, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital.
He was survived by his wife, Edith (Myers) Kenly, of Latrobe; a son, William R. Kenly and his wife, Cheryl, of Latrobe; a daughter, Patricia J. Kenly, of Latrobe; half sister, Rebecca Cameron, of California; and a grandson, Zachary, who brought love and life to Bill through his love of sports.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kenly, and half brother, Glen Donahey.
JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. The American Legion Post #515 and VFW Post #3414 held military services.
A funeral service with the Trinity clergy officiating.
Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery.
