1930 Census

The Roy Richter family lives at 14 Saratoga St. in Lowell, MA. It is a rental ($26/month). Roy is a velvet finisher at a cotton mill. His stepson Carl is in school. Marion notes her age at first marriage as 28 (was her first marriage to Carl Erlebach annulled?).

1940 Census

The Richter family lives at 37 Bedford St, in Bath, Maine. They own their home (valued at $4,000). Roy attended school to 8th grade. His wife and stepson Carl completed 4 years of high school. His daughter Marine R (Marion Ruth) has completed 7th grade. Roy works 60 hours a week as a salesman, and his stepson Carl works 40 hours as a salesman in a retail grocery store. Roy earned $1,400 in 1939; Carl earned $900.

Military Service

Carl Erlebach is drafted in 1940 in the infantry of the U.S. Army. He is captured as a prisoner of war by the Germans 

in Tunisia in 1943. He is detained in Germany and is not released until 1945. See details in source citation.
