Utica Daily Press, 30 July 1982: CARL A. BURRITT Sandy Creek-- Carl A. Burritt, former Mayor, died July 21 at The House of the Good Samaritan in Watertown. He was born January 12, 1910 at Paris NY, son of Arthur W. and Mertie Smart Burritt. He was educated in Paris and Clinton schools and spent his early life in that area. He came to Sandy Creek at age 19 as manager of the Victory Food Market. He was later employed as a salesman for the Specialty Mattress Co. of Huntington WV, covering central and northern New York. He purchased the business block bordered by Lake and Main ST in Sandy Creek where he operated a furniture and floor covering business for several years. For the past 20 years he has been associated with the R.G. Stone Co., Inc. Realtors, Syracuse, operating from an office in his home. He served as village trustee for 8 years and as mayor from 1958 to 1973. He also served as vice-president and president of the Oswego County Fair Association. He was a member and past master of Sandy Creek Lodge No. 564 F&AM; an exempt member of the Sandy Creek Volunteer Fire Dept.; member of the Sandy Creek Fish & Game Club; Sandy Pond Sportsmen's Association and the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Esther; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Marva) Struwing of Central Square; two grandsons, Scott and Stephen Struwing; a sister, Mrs. Daniel (Sally) Wetzel, Utica; two nieces... all of Maryland. He was predeceased by a brother, Harwood, in 1977. Funeral services were held Saturday July 24 at the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
