BIOGRAPHY: Calvin Luther was a farmer in Johnston, Rhode Island. He was a soldier of the Civil War, in Co. K, 5th Heavy Atr'y; detached for sickness June 26, 1865. He was six feet one inch in height, weighted 215 pounds and noted for his great strength. Alwasy on the side of the weak and helpless, he was often involved in fisticulff altercations but never beaten. Calvin and family are buried in the Luther Cemetery, Peck HIll, Scituate Road, as is also Job Waterman whose tombstone is inscribed: "died Jan 16, 1866, aged 78 years." |
