Shelley was born in New Jersey, but later moved to England and used his significant wealth to build a significant country house, Castle Goring. He was ultimately created 1st Baronet Shelley, of Castle Goring, Sussex. His son Timothy was a member of Parliament, and his namesake grandson, Percy Bysshe Shelley was a major 19th century Romantic poet.
