It is believed that the Betty Ice who married Earl Starrett and gave her parents' names as Birch Ice and Leola Morris^[2] was actually the daughter of Bert Hamilton Moore and Lola Morris, based on

• the names of her parents
• the fact that Bert Hamilton Moore's mother's maiden name was Ice
• the fact that Bert Hamilton Moore appears to have used the name Birch Ice in the 1900 census, when he was living with his grandfather (unless this was a cousin named Birch Ice)
• the fact that Betty Ice was born in 1923^[1] in McArthur, Ohio^[2], where Betty A Moore was living in 1930^[3]
• the absence of a Betty Ann Ice in the 1930 census who corresponds to the Betty Ann Ice of the 1940 census

It is possible that Betty took her grandmother's maiden name at some point between the ages of 7 (1930 census) and 17 (1940 census).

However, it is also possible that Betty A Moore (1930 census) and Betty Ann Ice (1940 census and marriage to Earl Starrett) were different people.
