    -20 Aug 1723 at house of Robert Case. Bethyah Cottrill of South Kingstown, widow, hath made complaint to the Town Council that she hath not where with all allowed to her by her son Stephen Cottrill to sustain her life so Town Council orders sd Cottrill to allow sd Mother a reasonable maintainance in the house where she now lives and that she shall not keep her daughter Rachel Cottrel with her. Also that Stephen Cottrel shall not allow his Brother James Hall to live with him at this house and also that John Tefft overseer of the Poor be appointed to see that she be reasonable provided for.
    -8 May 1727 Whereas Bethiah Cottrell of South Kingstown, widow and relict of Gershom Cottrell formerly of Kingstown, hath made complaint to ye Town Council of South Kingstown that she hath been much abused by her son Stephen Cottrell & his wife and that she doth daily suffer for lack of food and raiment and we duly considering ye evidences do order ye third part of ye real estate that did belong to her said deceased husband and now in the possession of sd Stephen Cottrell shall be sett off to the said Bethiah and take out by the persons hereafter named and they to make their return to ye next Town Council of South Kingstown. John Tifft, John Sheldon, Moses Barber Jr, Samuel Babcock. Rowse Helme Esqr appointed to go with them.
