The few stories mother told me about my grandmother I will relate here as I believe this to be A remarkable woman. She bore A man 11 children only to be left to raise them alone. Her baby,Flora died in infancy.I do not know if her husband left before that or not.She was to take in laundry at first to support the children still at home.My mother and her brother,Charlie were to deliver the washed, starched and ironed clothing and linens to the families once it was done.To do this my grandmother would pack it all neatly in their wagon. One particular day while they were out delivering, after A rain some bullies turned their wagon over and the laundry ended up in the mud.My grandmother spent that day and night redoing those clothes.Maybe that discouraged her to the point where she had to try another way, because she farmed my mother and Charlie out .She then went to work cooking in A mining camp and died shortly after.
