Bert Bliek, 87, of Rock Valley, died Saturday, July 1, 1989 in a Sioux Falls hospital. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 5 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Raymond Denekas officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Mr. Bliek was bom Oct. 2, 1901, at Lisse in The Netherlands. He came to the Rock Valley area at the age of 17. He worked as a farmhand until he married Grace Ver Doorn Feb. 11, 1926, at Rock Valley. They farmed in that area together until they retired in March of 1969. Grace died July 24, 1969. On March 29, 1974, he married Bertha Vonk at Rock Valley.

He was a lifetime member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Arie of Larchwood, Iowa, and Herbert of Rock Valley; a stepson, Marvin Vonk of Hudson, S.D.; five daughters, Mrs. William (Henrietta) Alien of Rolfe, Iowa, Mrs. Pete (Elsie) Jacobsma of Doon, Mrs. Vern (Josephine) De Jager of Rock Valley, and Bertha Feekes and Mrs. Ferrell (Grace) Boyles, both of Hawarden; five step-daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Janet) Gaalswyk, Mrs. Robert (Johanna) Ver Muhn, and Mrs. Gilbert (Alene) Van Holland, all of Rock Valley, Mrs. Gilbert (Hermina) Besselsen of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Duane (Bernice) Sandbult of Hills, Minn.; 40 grandchildren, 30 step-grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 29 step-great-grandchildren.
