The name of d’Oliber or Oliver, gallicized as Olivier, towards the second half of the 17th century, is very ancient in the town of Nay. The Dénombrement général des maisons de la vicomté de Béarn, dressé en 1385 par ordre de Gaston Phœbus (General Enumeration of the houses of the Viscounty of Béarn, drawn up in 1385 by order of Gaston Phœbus), in fact mentions, at Nay, the ostau (house) of Guixarnaut d' Oliver, the ostau of Tolet Oliver, the ostau of Mariote Oliver, the ostau of Gaxarnaut d' Oliver and the ostau of Guixarnaud d' Oliver.¹

Peyroton of Oliver,² Nay, paid tribute on January 30th, 1538, in the chàteau of Pau before Jacques de Foix, bishop of Lescar and lieutenant général of Henri II, king of Navarre, sovereign viscount of Béarn, for certain noble lands dependent on the noble house of Incamps, of Coarraze, that it had acquired on November 28th, 1531 from Bernard d'Incamps.³

Bernad d'Oliber appears in a census of Nay for the year 1581.⁴

Jourdain d'Olivier, minister (protestant pastor) of Pau, son of M^e Isaac d' Olivier, bourgeois et marchand (burgher and merchant) of Nay, and of Mlle Isabeau de Massalin, was born in Nay and baptised on September 24th, 1643 in the temple of that town.⁵ Nephew of M^e Philémon d'Olivier, minister of Mauléon in 167O, he is descended through his paternal grandmother, Judith de Brun, from an ancient line of ministers, . . . .

   « Le nom d'Oliber ou Oliver, francisé en Olivier, vers la seconde moitié du XVII° siècle, est fort ancien dans la ville de Nay. Le Dénombrement général des maisons de la vicomté de Béarn, dressé en 1385 par ordre de Gaston Phœbus, mentionne, en effet, à Nay, l'ostau (maison) de Guixarnaut d'Oliver, l'ostau de Tolet d'Oliver, l'ostau de Mariote Oliver, l'ostau de Gaxarnaut d'Oliver et l'ostau de Guixarnaud d'Oliver.¹
   Peyroton d'Oliver,² de Nay, rendit hommage, le 30 janvier 1538, au chàteau de Pau, devant Jacques de Foix, évêque de Lescar, lieutenant général d'Henri II, roi de Navarre, vicomte souverain de Béarn, pour certaines terres nobles dépendant de la maison noble d'Incamps, de Coarraze, qu'il avait acquises, le 28 novembre 1531, de Bernard d'Incamps.³

   Jourdain d'Olivier, ministre de Pau, fils de M^e Isaac d'Olivier, bourgeois et marchand de Nay, et de damoiselle Isabeau de Massalin, naquit à Nay et fut baptisé dans le temple de cette ville, le 24 septembre 1643.⁵ Neveu de M^e Philémon d'Olivier, ministre de Mauléon en 167O, il descendait, par sa grand'mère paternelle, Judith de Brun, d'une ancietine famille de ministres, . . . . »
