Ben was the manager of Tranter Industries in Franklin, Indiana He was a member of the Franklin Pilots Club.

Ben and I were very close. When I was a small child he would take me out on "dates". I would be dressed in my very best and we would go see a movie at the Franklin or Artcraft theaters. After the movie, he would frequently take me to the G C Murphy store toy department and allow me to pick out whatever I wanted. Always afraid that I might offend him, I would seach for the cheapest thing I could find. Our Easter family gatherings were such a big event and everyone came in their new clothes. We did not always have money for my sister and I to have new clothes. I remember the Easter eve that Ben and my aunt came to the farm and he presented me with a new gray skirt and jacket. It had lovely pink pipping along the edges. I was so proud of that outfit.

  2. Edith Minnemeyer and Ravena Tranter were spending a week at Lake Shaefer near Monticello, Indiana. Ben wanted to surprise them by flying up in his private plane. As he was approaching the air field in Monticello, his landing gear hit high tension lines and his plane exploded killing him instantly. As an added note: I was to go with him, but developed a cold and my mother would not allow me to go.
