    Benjamin Lang, sr., came from Rye, and built the house now owned by his great grandson Isaiah Lang. Capt. Benjamin Lang, jr., was the next owner and his son, David Lang, had the place. He was succeeded by his son, Isaiah Lang. (Hist of Canida 481). List of tax-payers 1778 (History of Candia p 103); Among the first blacksmiths were... Benjamin Lang, Thomas Lang, John Lang, Jacob Lang, Gilman C Lang (p 276). Next door to the farm of Benjamin Lang Sr is the Site of a house owned and occupied by Benjamin Lang. John Clay, jr. who married Benjamin Lang's widow, owned the place. (p 481). The first mill in this section of the town was erected by Ensign Clay, Benjamin Lang and others on the stream which flows from the west part of the town to the village and the Island more than eighty years ago. (History of Candia p 250). List of tax payers 1800 (History of Candia p 164-5). List of tax payers 1810 was both Benjamin Lang Sr and Benjamin Lang Jr (History of Candia p 241). Benjamin Lang died 5 May 1816 aged 79 (p400). CEMETERY ON THE NEW BOSTON ROAD. When Benjamin Lang, one of the first settlers on the New Boston road died, his remains were buried in a field belongingto his farm, a short distance from his dwelling house. His wife, who died in 1830, was also buried there. [It appears both Benjamin Lang Sr and Benjamin Lang Jr are buried here as well as Sr's second wife Deborah Varrill who died 1836 and Jr's wife Deborah who died 1830].

    Benjamin4 Lang (William3, John2, Robert4), born Portsmouth Sept. 19, 1734, died May 4, 1816, carpenter of Rye 1759, Candia 1790; married (1) Newington, 1758 Eleanor Burleigh, b. Rye, 1731 (dau. Wm. and Eleanor Johnson), mar. (2) Candia, 1797, Deborah Verrill, b. Rye 1755, d. 1836 (dau. Solomon and Deborah Bartlett). She mar. 2nd as his 2nd wife, 1822, John Clay of Candia. Benjamin was Corporal in 1775, Parson's Co. of minute men serving the Fort of New Castle. The 1756 marriage of Benj. Lang to Mary Thompson (Parson's Rye, 406) might have been a first marriage, with no children recorded. 5 children with Eleanor Burleigh [note the author only reviews three of the children and I have only found four of the children in vital records. I don't know who the fifth child was].

    # Betsey Lang born 25 Aug 1771 in Rochester, NH baptized 1 Sep 1771 in Rye married Joshua Foss (1770-1850) of Barrington. [Note the author doesn't mention this daughter] They moved to Charleston, Penobscot, Maine. Joshua died 15 Apr 1850 and is buried in Saint Albans, Somerset, Maine. Their son Joshua Foss moved to Rowley, MA [see Journals of Enoch Hayes Place 1810-1865 and The Gentleman from Everywhere by James Henry Foss].
