    25 Jan 1883 - Ben. O. Carpenter, died at his residence in Indianapolis, on Wednesday night, Jan. 17th, of Consumption. Mr. Carpenter, when a young man was a resident of our city, and worked at his trade in his brother's, J. W. Carpenter's Marble Works. At the breaking out of the war in 1861 he entered the Navy from here with Henry Hammel, Geo. Woods, Jesse Green and his brother John Carpenter, on the Flag Ship Wabash, under Commodore Dupont. Previous to his entering the service he was married to Miss Mehitable Pitman, sister of Lee and George Pitman, and after his return home he engaged in the marble business at Indianapolis, where he lived ever since.
