The attached story was provided to me by Beatrice's daughter, Elaine:

When Grandpa (Ughtred Gerald Yates) and Grandma (Rose Alice) had Mom, Rose wanted her first name to be Catherine (after her beloved sister), but Ughtred wanted her first name to be Beatrice (very traditional English). They had a few spars over it, and Rose thought she'd win out by putting it down as Catherine Beatrice Yates on Mom's birth certificate. Well, Ughtred wasn't having it and refused to call her by her first and birth name, Catherine. From the day Mom was born to her dad's death, he called her Beatrice. Grandpa didn't have anything against the name Catherine, he just wanted it to be her middle name instead. Guess what her Mom called her--Catherine. But, unfortunately, Rose died when Mom was 10, and the name Beatrice hung on thereafter.
