Facts and Events
Known as Bruce. Enlisted in the Army in the early 1960s. He was in the infantry and did a tour in Viet Nam. He was awarded a purple heart for getting wounded. After his returned from Viet Nam, he was accepted into the Warrant Office Flight School and became a helicopter pilot. He did 2 more tours in Veit Nam. He was very involved in the deve;opment of the weapons systems that were put to use on Apache attach helicopters. Bruce died from a heart attack in 1984 while deer hunting. He had a large military funeral. A portion of an Army base in Maryland is named for Bruce - the Ottenberg Air Training Facility. Upon his death, the AH064 Apache Helicopter Mantenance Training Facility at Fort Eustis was dedicated in his honor. |
