Facts and Events
married, 2nd, Joseph DEXTER, b. Rochester, MA 27 Feb. 1732; sonof Benjamin and Hannah (Barrow) Dexter. Joseph and Azuba Dexter went with the two Godfrey children (Enoch & Warren) toLiverpool, NS ca. 1760-62 and had five Dexter children recorded there. Joseph Dexter was jailed in 1777 for assisting American sailors during the Revolution. Azuba and younger children returned by ship for Boston but were captured by an American privateer and put ashore at Newburyport "destitute and without friends." Joseph and Azuba thereafter resided at Chatham, MA. (Vital records of Liverpool NS [NEHGR 126:163] report date of 28 Nov 1762 for marriage of Azuba's 2nd marriage; it is contradicted by Barnstable Co. probate records for her first husband and by recorded date of birth of oldest Dexter child.) |
