According to his daughter Ann, Dudley had a difficult early life, but was determined to get ahead. He had a lively and inquisitive mind and became an engineer, bit by bit, by attending night school while holding down a job during the day. He was always interested in anything mechanical: motorcars, motorbikes, a bus at one point, and his beloved planes. In the late 1950s, we spent many summer weekends at the Hawkesbury (Ontario, Canada) Gliding club where he was the pilot of the tow planes. He became an aeronautical engineer and was respected enough at the Canadair Montreal to be sent to Boeing Seattle for his last contract where he sadly became too ill to continue working. Dudley was active politically and worked hard to bring about Medicare here in Canada. He was worried that once he fell ill, his illness would leave his family in a bad way financially, but that never came to pass. He was much appreciated for his efforts in helping to bring this about and was rewarded a silver tray by The New Democratic Party, of which he was a member. Although The New Democrats never made it to power, their platform was responsible for Medicare being accepted by Canadians. Because of that, Tommy Douglas, The New Democrat leader during the 1960s, is a revered Canadian and we are most proud of the role that Dudley played in contributing to this.

According to his daughter Janet, he was well liked by his friends at work. His sense of humour was dry and he enjoyed stirring up controversial topics amongst his work mates. He had many friends at the time of his death and was devoted to the welfare of his family
