Know all men by these present that Appleton Gay and John Montgomery, of the State of Louisiana and Parish of St. Landry, are held and firmly bound unto Henry Johnson, Governor, of the aforesaid state, and to his successors in office, in the sum of five hundred dollars, for the true and faithful payment whereof they hereby bind themselves, their heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents Sealed with their seals and dated at Opelousas, the eighth day of October Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and twenty-eight. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Appleton Gay has this day obtain license to marry Lucinda Montgomery, daughter of John Montgomery of the aforesaid parish. (Now if there should be or hereafter appear no legal impediment to the said marriage, then if in that case) the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue--- Signed, sealed and delivered Appleton Gay (Seal) In presence of Ben P.
