There is not proof that Antoine, father of Joseph is the same as Antoine, husband to Clemance, but known facts fit the following scenario: Antoine was born in or near Leroy, North Dakota and either married in North Dakota or Quebec or went to Massachusetts where relatives were and then got married. He may have left to get a wife or find work alone or with a brother. The fabric mills in the North Eastern United States employed many of French-Canadian extraction. After having a few children in the Lowell, Massachusetts area, his wife probably died. He then packed up his children which included his two oldest sons, Joseph and Napoleon and along with a brother, went back to North Dakota. He may temporarily left some of his youngest children in the care of relatives but probably needed his two oldest boys for farm work (or they refused to stay, or both), brought them back. He then met and then married in 1886 Clemence Dame, she being 17 years old and he was 36. Evidently Antoine either went back or sent for his children because at least two of them were married at St.Joseph's Catholic Church in Leroy, North Dakota and two lived in Massachusetts in 1926.
