Anthony was baptized in the Catholic Church in Emblemoran, Castleconor. HIs godparents were Edward Ruane and Sarah Henigan. The 1900 census indicates that he arrived in America in 1883. Before 1893, he emigrated to Philadelphia where he married Catherine Smith. In 1900, Anthony was married with three children living at home. His address was 2723 Mercer Street. His sister Delia Murphy lived on the same block.He was a laborer who had been in the United States for 17 years.
According to the 1910 census, Anthony was a naturalized citizen, although the 1920 census says differently. He was living in the same house as in 1900 although Delia had moved. He worked as a laborer for a lumber company.
By 1920, the family had moved to 2549 Cedar Street where Anthony owned a house with a mortgage.
