Her parents Elias McCauley of Hampshire County and Susan Baker of Hardy County married on Nov. 30, 1853 in Hardy County. One of their children was Rebecca (probably Rebecca Ann). The parents of Susan Baker were Abraham and Mary Baker. Elias was a school teacher before the Civil War, and he operated a mill at Sedan. After the war Elias moved to Hardy County and established the family home at Hanging Rock (later called McCauley), where he engaged in milling and also general merchandise. Susan Baker was born at Baker's Run in Hardy County. Her mother was Mary Ann Wise. Aaron McCauley, Rebecca's brother, was a lifelong school teacher. Rebecca married John B. Russell; she died Sept. 6, 1906 at McCauley.
