James & Ann Smart to Jesse Knighton October 20,1831 Know all men by these presents that I James Smart of the Countyof Yazoo and State of Mississippi for and in consideration ofthe sum of three hundred and fifty Dollars to me in hand paid bythe said Jesse Knighten of the same State and County the receiptwhereof is hereby acknowledged have given granted bargained soldconveyed and confirmed and by these presents do bargain sellconvey and confirm unto the said Jesse Knighten his heirs andassigns forever all that certain lot or parcel of ground situatelying and being in County and State aforesaid but moreparticularly known as the West 1/2 of North West 1/4 of theSection 24 Township Ten of Range one west Containing Eighty and12/100 acres more or less with all and singular rights tenementshereditaments and appurtenances unto the said Jesse Knighten hisheirs and assigns to his and their use benefit and behoofforever and I the said James Smart for myself my heirs Executorsand administrators do covenant to and with said Jesse Knightenhis heirs and assigns that I am lawfully seized in fee of theabove granted premises that I good and lawful authority to selland convey the same that they are free from all incumbrances andthat I will and my heirs and administrators shall warrant andforever defend the same against all persons lawfully orequitably claiming the same and I Ann J. Smart wife of the saidJames for and in consideration of the premises and the furthersum of one dollar to me paid by the said Jesse Knighten thereceipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do hereby release all myright and title of dower in and to the aforegranted premises tothe said Jesse Knighten. AndAnn J. Smart wife of the said James Smart examined by meseparate and apart from her husband acknowledged that sheExecuted the same freely and Voluntarily without any fear threator compulsion of her said husband whatever.
