ANNA HOCKETT was born on 18 June 1796. She was a Friend (Quaker). She was granted a certificate to Westfield Monthly Meeting (Surry County, North Carolina or Preble County, Ohio?) with her father, Jonathan Hockett, on 2 September 1799 by Deep River Monthly Meeting, Guilford County, North Carolina. She married James Moon circa May 1816. She was condemned for marrying contrary to discipline on 3 February 1817 by Newberry Monthly Meeting, Clinton County, Ohio, This was the Monthly Meeting, though, so she was certainly married earlier. She was disowned for marrying "out of union" on 28 June 1827 by Newberry Monthly Meeting, Clinton County, Ohio, This doesn't make sense, as she was married in 1819 to Robert Ellis, not at all "out of union" nor in this year. There is also an entry, "1828, 7, 24. Ann gct White Lick MM, Ind." But what would Ann be doing in Indiana when she went on having children in Ohio? Anne's history is indeed full of mysteries of this sort. She moved at the end of 1851 to Indiana. She died on 8 December 1881 in Grant County, Indiana, at age 85.

In the records of the Back Creek Friends Cemetery, described as Anna Hoggatt Ellis, and noted as a member of the Back Creek MM.
