PAULY.—At her home in this city, Monday, May 14 1900, of heart disease, Anna, beloved wife of John Pauly, aged seventy two years.

Anna Mary Castor was born in Luxembourg on May 23, 1828, and came to this country at the age of nineteen. Her home was for a time in Chicago, and here it was that met and married John Pauly, who lives to mourn the loss of a companion of nearly half a century. It was in the spring of 1851 that they were wed, and they lived in Chicago until three years later, when they came west and preempted a claim in Chanhassen town and remained on it for eight years. In 1862 they moved to Minneapolis, and had lived there the greater part of the time, since until about three years ago when they removed to Shakopee. In 1887 they went to Europe and remained a year, and they have since that time traveled considerably, spending the winters in southern climates. Mr Pauly bought the Voelker placed nearly two years ago and has built up a very cosy and comfortable home there. No children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pauly, and Mr Pauly is left to finish life's journey alone, save for an adopted son, August Pauly, a real estate agent in Minneapolis.

Mrs. Pauly was an estimable old lady, faithful to the duties of her home and church, and a good neighbor. The disease which ultimately caused her death had troubled her all her life, and she was never very strong in body, yet she so well filled her place in the world that her death is sincerely mourned by all who knew her.

The funeral took place from St. Mark's church yesterday morning, Rev. Fr. Plut officiating. The Luxemburger Verein was present in a body, and also the elder ladies society of St. Mark's, of both which bodies deceased had been a member. Interment was in the new Catholic cemetery.

On her tomb in Shakopee is carved:

Ruhe sanft in Gottes Schooss Seligkeit sei dir zum Loos Einsl beim frohen Auferstehen Werden wir uns wieder sehen

which in English is roughly:

Rest gently in God Schooss Bliss to you at Loos One (day?) the joyful rise Will we see each other again

Mrs. John Pauly at her home Monday at 2 p. m. after a lingering sickness of nearly 6 years. Mrs. Pauly was a highly educated lady, accomplished in many arts and ever willing to assist the distressed, giving aid and advice, which had endeared her to many people here as well as other places where she resided. Mrs Pauly, formerly Miss Anna Castar born at Travern-machen Luxemburg but was raised and educated at Trier, Germany. She came to America in company with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mason now living at Chanhassen, in 1850 living at Chicago, two yeears later she was married to Mr. Pauly, and in 56 came to Minnesota where they made a claim on the shore of Lake Susan near Chanhassen, Carver Co., where they lived enjoying farm life for 20 years, when he sold his farm and engaged at coopering in Minneapolis at which he was very successful. City life did not agree with Mrs. Pauly, as her health soon began to fail. Estimating health above everything else, Mr. Pauly sold his business and commenced traveling with his wife, they visited Germany living there for a few years, when they came back to America journeying to the hot springs and other health resorts, and although there was no permanent cure the good care and kind treatment by her husband prolonged her life many years, Five years ago they came to Shakopee and lived here until her demise, leaving her husband with no children, one adopted son Gustav Paul living in Minneapolis, one brother Gustav Castar formerly a resident here, now manager of Glueck's Brewing Co. at Minneapolis, and two sisters Mrs. Joseph Mason at Chanhassen , and Mrs. Peter Drucke on a farm on mile north of here. The funeral was held from St. Mark's church Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock attended by her numerous friends here, from Chanhassen, Minnaeapolis and other places.

The following from afar attended the Pauley funeral here last Wednesday. Gust Pauly, son and daughter, Miss Katie Murphey, Mrs. Gust Druke, Mrs. Ellenson, John and Nic Pauly of Minneapolis, Henry Pauley, John Mason and wife, Emil Klein and Mr. and Mrs. Nic. Pauly of Chanhassen.
