link The authors (one of them a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogist) studied parish records in England. Their conclusion was that as of 1996 the maiden name of the wife of Edward1 Franch is still unknown. In his 1662 will, Rev. William1 Worcester of Salisbury called Edward French "brother [Essex Probate 30679] and in a 1663 letter, Worcester's step-son James Hall of London called Edward French "Uncle French [John Hall Letters box 1 folder 5, American Antiquarian]. Investigation into Rebecca (Swayne) (Byley) Hall showed she was not related to French or his wife. Therefore it is probably the Worcester's 1st wife was either sister to French or his wife. Several new bps for Worcester's children were found. [Therefore we can not at this time determine the maiden name of French's wife].
