Sec. 62. ANDREW EDMUNDS ( Sec. 28 ) was born June 17, 1760, at Providence, Rhode Island, and died January 8, 1813, at Brownville, Jefferson County, New York. He lived in Rhode Island with his aunt MOLLY (a sister to JAMES EDMUNDS II, Sec. 27 ), who married a SHELDON ( Sec. 7 ). In 1777, he enlisted in the army, but his father sent his half-brother WILLIAM ( Sec. 53 ) to take his place, and WILLIAM served seven years. Andrew afterward ran away, and enlisted again "for three years or the war. " When his three years were expired, he wanted to go home; but his officers said that he must serve "for the war. " Enraged at this deception (in the terms of his enlistment), he deserted, after serving three and a half years. Peace was soon afterward concluded, and he was never molested.
Sec. 63. He went to Clarendon, Vermont, and there was married about a year before the close of the war. In 1791, he moved from Vermont to Holland's Patent, about ten miles from Whitestown, New York. Here he lived three or four years, and then went to Leiden (now Booneville) some eighteen miles distant. In the winter of 1804, he moved to Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. Nine years later, he died at Brownville, in the same county.
