Andrew E. Durham, an attorney in Greencastle, Indiana, served several terms in the Indiana legislature. A Democrat in the Jeffersonian tradition, he was briefly the minority leader in the Indiana Senate. His best-known move was to defeat a Republican effort to gerrymander the legislative districts by arranging for Democrats in the Senate to travel secretly to Ohio so that the state senate would lack a quorum to enact this legislation. Promised that they would drop the gerrymandering proposal, the Democrats returned to Indiana in triumph. Durham, who briefly considered running for Congress, was a noted humorist and public speaker. http://www.identityindependence.com/familytree.html
