Private Andrew Dixon, serving with the armored infantry, was killed in Germany Sept. 19 according to word from the War Department. Shortly before he was killed, the 20-year old soldier wrote to his brother, Corporal George Dixon of Hollis, who has been overseas for a year, that he had escaped injury when a shell exploded in his foxhole. Born in Jamaica, where his family lived until five months ago, Corporal Dixon graduated from St. Monica's Parochial School and Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Brooklyn. He worked for the Brooklyn Union Gas Company in Jamaica before entering service June 1, 1943. He had been overseas since May. A brother William lives in Jamaica. |
