Amy Taylor was the daughter of Richard and Anne Taylor of Worth, Sussex, England. It's not known what Richard did for a living but given that Amy married a farmer the family is likely to have been working (rather than middle) class. Richard and Ann may have been the Richard Taylor and Anne Reinolds who married 18 July 1738 in East Grinstead, but if this is the case there is an unexpected gap of 11 years before their first known child was born.
Amy was the oldest of Richard and Anne's four known children, and details of Amy's sibling's lives after baptism are not yet known. Amy was baptised at St. Nicholas (the Worth parish church) on 30 Apr 1749.
Amy was likely in her early twenties when she married farmer James Gorringe at St. Nicholas on 2 October 1772. They went on to have four daughters and five sons before Amy died (possibly in childbirth) in 1790. She was buried in East Grinstead on 1 July 1790.
