    Amanda E. Hatfield

Amanda Ellen Hatfield, daughter of Major R. and Margaret Mullenix Roberts was born May 7, 1877 at Mercerville, Mo., Macon county and passed from this life September 14, 1908 in Kansas City, Mo., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Callie Briley, at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 7 days.

When Amanda was a child her parents moved to Kirksville, Mo., where she grew to womanhood, and where on October 5, 1895 she was united in marriage to Hiram Hatfield at Unionville, Mo. This union was blessed with two children.

As a bride, Amanda and her husband moved to a farm north of Hartford, Mo., where they made their home until his death in February of 1960. They had been very fortunate in being able to spend 65 years together. After his death she went to Kansas City to make her home with her daughter, who took loving care of her until the scythe of time had claimed its own. Her last few years were spent as a wheel chair patient until May of this year when she suffered a stroke.

Amanda is survived by her two children, Callie Briley and Herbert both of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Mildred; one granddaughter, Luella Jones and one grandson, Orris Ballard, also of Kansas City, Mo. Also surviving are 6 great grandchildren and one brother, Delbert Roberts of Paris, Mo.

Amanda was a faithful member of the Baptist church, having confessed her faith in Christ as a very young woman.

She was a loving wife and mother and stanch friend and neighbor. Those who came in contact with her benefited by having known her. Her life was an open book for all to read and follow.

Funeral services were conducted at the Husted Funeral Home Monday, September 16, 1968 at 2 p.m. by Elder Clyde Johnson. Interment was in the Shipley cemetery.
