!Alton John Lehman was my father-in-law. He was a fine strong hearted man. He suffered many years of serious illness (he had emphyzema) and eventually died of lung cancer in 1982 from many years of smoking. He showed me much love and acceptance and loved to talk of things of the world and thoughts of the heart. He made me think and work out my ideas. One day he sat me down and tearfully told me that he and his wife, Norma loved me as much as any of their daughters, and earnestly wanted me to know I was not an outsider or in his word not an "in-law," but a daughter. He touched my heart and I will never forget the way he made me feel. Loved. There was an error on Alton's birth certificate and his last name is spelled with one "N" while the rest of the family had the double "NN".
