He lived in Hopkins, Allegan, MI in 1917 and Lansing in 1930. He wasa life member of Hopkins Lodge F&A.M. Dr. Almond H. Wicks, who, practicing along scientific lines, hasgained recognition as one of the foremost members of the medicalfraternity in Allegan county, has been located in Hopkins township foreighteen years. He was born in Cooper township, Kalamazoo county,Michigan, on the 12th of January, 1861. His father, John H. Wicks,was one of the successful and prominent early teachers of the countyand followed his profession in Cooper Center and at Plainwell. Dr. Wicks was reared under the parental roof, remaining at home untiltwenty-one years of age. After attending the district schools hebecame a student in the high school at Otsego, and when he had putaside his textbooks he concentrated his energies upon the farm workuntil twenty-four years of age. In the meantime, he had become imbuedwith a desire to enter professional circles and determined to make thepractice of medicine his life work. He therefore pursed his firstcourse of lectures in the medical department of the State Universityat Ann Arbor, where he remained as a student for three years, beinggraduated in the class of 1887, with the degree of M.D. He locatedfor practice in Hopkinsburg, and later removed to the village ofHopkins on the railroad. He has an excellent practice and isthoroughly well qualified to take charge of important cases, for he isa conscientious physician, of wide knowledge and broad experience. Hebelongs to the Kalamazoo Medical Academy and to the State MedicalSociety. In company with his brother and with Herman Stroud heassisted in organizing the Hopkins Creamery Company in 1902, and isstill financially interested in the enterprise. In April 1889, Dr. Wicks was untied in marriage to Miss NellieDucharne, of Plainwell, Michigan, who was engaged in the millinerybusiness there. They now have three children, Lola, and Bernard andBernice, twins. In his political views the doctor is a stalwartRepublican and fraternally is a Mason, while he and his wife aremember of the Congregational church, of which he was formerly atrustee.
