I have found the following references to members of the Saxon family in Indiana. Vital Statistics from the National Intellegencer, 1836: Pg. 71

SAXON, Alexander, was accidentally killed Jan. 18, 1836 at Connersville, Ind., by the firing of a gun (Feb. 11, 1836).

Fayette County Indiana Marriage Records SAXON, Alexander G. married MCCRORY, Margaret 27 Sept. 1827 SAXON, John married GORDON, Margaret 9 Feb. 1832 SAXON, Robert married PORTER, Eliza 8 Sept. 1829

Grant County Indiana The cemetery in Richland Township of Grant County Indiana is owned by the Odd Fellow Lodge of Converse and is called the Converse Cemetery. It was laid out in 1872. A history of Miami County says on page 318 "in 1872 a cemetery costing $2000 was laid out near the town."

Saxon, Alexander G. 1836 - 1875 S/S with Lean and Marion L. Also a separate military stone. Alex. G. "Corp. Co. I 142 Ind. Inf."

Bertha L. dau of W.L. & L. Saxon born Feb. 22, 1872 died Sept. 23, 1878 aged 6y.7m.1d. S/S with Lieusetta and William L.

Lean wife of Alexander G. Saxon 1838 - 1910 S/S with Alexander G. and Marion L.

Lieusetta wife of Wm. L. Saxon born Nov. 30, 1845 died Apr. 11, 1901 aged 55y.4m.11d. S/S with Bertha L. and William L.

Marion L. 1858 - 1859 S/S with Alexander G. and Lean

William L. Jan. 1, 1845 - ____ S/S with Bertha L. and Lieusetta

There are other Saxons in this cemetery also.

I am a descendant of John Saxon and Elizabeth Evans, who came to Blackford County, IN ca. 1838 with members of their large extended family. Some of the extended family members were the Gilbert Townsend and Mary (Polly) Saxon family, the John Casterline and Malinda Saxon family and Selah Ellis and Hepsey Saxon Ellis and several others.

I am trying to determine if there is a connection between the Alexander Saxon who was accidentally killed in Fayette County, Indiana in 1836 and the Alexander Saxon who was born in 1836 and died in Grant County, Indiana . Also if any of these individuals are connected to the John Saxon and Elizabeth Evans family of Blackford County, Indiana.

I have quite a bit of information on the Townsend and Saxon families that I would be happy to share. Thanks http://genforum.genealogy.com/saxon/messages/74.html

John, I just returned from a genealogy research trip to Indiana where I visited both the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis and the Allen County Library in Fort Wayne. I hit the jackpot at the Allen County Library when I found a book entitled "Alexander Saxon and Mary Baldwin Descendants: A Pioneer Indiana Family" written by Dawne Slater-Putt and published in 1993. These folks are my 4GGrandparents and the book contained the complete line from them down to where I already have researched. I don't know where else you can find a copy of this book, but you will probably save yourself a lot of time if you get it. Eli http://genforum.genealogy.com/saxon/messages/161.html
