Alexander and his sons Thomas & Isham enlisted in the Confederate Army on Aug. 6, 1861 as part of Company A, 28th Regt., Tenn. Volunteers (also known as 2nd Mt. Reg. Tn. Vol.). Alexander was a 3rd Corporal. Alexander and Thomas both fought at the battle of Shiloh, where Thomas was killed and Alexander was wounded. Alexander was shot and died three[sic] days before the wars end, by a Yankee Sympathizer as he was leaving his home in Creston, Tn. after a night of R&R. On the land he donated is the Old Creston Cemetery.
