MR. A. G. McKAY

A well known resident of Upper Lansdowne, in the person of Mr. Alexander George McKay, passed away with tragic suddenness on Monday. For some time he had been suffering with an affection of the heart, and on Monday while walking into the dining room for the midday meal, he collapsed in his wife's arms, and passed away immediately. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McKay, of Nabiac, and was born on the Wallumba 64 years ago. He resided at Cedar Party for a number of years and has been on a farm at Upper Lansdowne for the past 12 years. He was married to Miss Elsie McAlpine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan McAlpine, of Lansdowne, and is survived by his wife and the following children: Messrs. Ernest and Alfred (Ghinni), Geo. (N.Z.), Gordon, Ray, Duncan, Mervyn and Allan (all of Lansdowne), Mrs. Clarrie Bignell (Macleay River), and Misses' Elaine and Heather (at home) The brothers and sisters of deceased are Messrs. Rob't. McKay (Bullahdelah), Allan (Sydney), Joseph (Kempsey), Stanley (Killibakh), Mrs. Bolton (Sydney), Mrs. W. Spooner (Nabiac), Mrs. Turner (Sydney), Mrs. Thompson (Tuncurry), and Mrs. Scott. (N.Z.) The late Mr. John McKay, who died at Taree in 1924, was a brother. The late Mr. McKay was a highly esteemed resident of the Lansdowne, and had friends in all parts of the district. At 1 p.m. on Tuesday Rev. L. B. Smith conducted a service at the Lansdowne Methodist Church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Lansdowne cemetery, where the same Minister officiated Mr. W. T. Howard carried out the funeral arrangements.

The death occurred suddenly, at his home. Central Lansdowne, on Monday, August 22nd., 1938, of Mr. Alexander George McKay, at the age of 64 years. For the last 18 months he had been a sufferer from heart trouble. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. McKay, he was born on the Wallamba River where he lived until he reached manhood. He was married to Miss Elsie McAlpine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan McAlpine, of Lansdowne. For years he had been a teamster with horses in various parts of the State, and he also went to Queensland, to Corroy, some 20 miles from Gympie. Returning to this district he followed farming for the last few years. The late Mr. McKay was a steady, conscientious and quiet living man, one who made friends and kept them. He is survived by a widow and the following sons and daughters: Messrs Ernest McKay (Cundle Plains), Gordon (Lansdowne), George (New Zealand), Alfred (Cundle Plains), Allan, Mervyn, Ray and Duncan (at home), Mrs. C. Bignell (Moorland), and Misses Elaine and Heather (at home). Surviving brothers of deceased include: Messrs Robert McKay (Bullahdelah), Joseph (Kempsey), Allan (Sydney), and Stanley (Keillabakh). One brother, Jack, died some five years ago. Sisters are: Mrs. Worth (Tuncurry), Mrs. Bolton (Sydney), Mrs. Scott (New Zealand) and Mrs. W. Spooner (Nabiac). The interment took place on Tuesday afternoon last. A service was conducted by the Rev. L. B. Smith, Coopenook, in the Koppin Yarratt Methodist Church, at 2, after which the cortege moved to the Lansdowne Cemetery, where the interment took place.
