Facts and Events
This Alexander Marr is possibly the same person who was mentioned in the following bankruptcy notice: Edinburgh September 7, 1824 Notice to the Creditors of Robert Marr & Son, Merchants, in Leith, as a Company, and of Alexander Marr, sole surviving partner of that concern, as an Individual [1] A bankruptcy notice was also given for Robert Marr, Merchant in Leith, in 1816 [2] with a meeting of creditors in 1818. [3] His son, James Marr, died aged 38 in 1824 and was buried in South Leith cemetery described as a "corn merchant". James' widow, Mary, was described as "independent" in 1841 and a "Fund holder" in 1851, indicating that she had inherited a significant sum of money from her husband. The Scotsman newspaper recorded a death in March 1853 "At London, on the 5th ultimo, Mr Alexander Marr, late merchant, Leith." [4] It's possible that the Robert Marr & Son, company, was linked to the Robert Marr, Merchant, whose death was recorded at Smith Place, Leith, on 14 July 1822. [5]. On 27 March 1821, Robert's daughter Margaret died at Smith Place. [6] |
