Alex was a well known farmer in Parsons, Kansas.

The military inscription on Alex’s headstone indicates he was a member of Company C, 91 Illinois Infantry Volunteer in the American Civil War. He enlisted on 12 Aug 1962, and served the Union side, and was promoted to Private while in service.

Research notes: - Berth Lant Yazell’s obituary mentions two living brothers, Eugene and Frank Lant, both of Parsons, Kansas, USA. Based on the fact that both of these individuals are found on the same census as Alex (and Bertha) it is reasonable to presume this leads creedence to Alex being the father of Bertha.
