Jesse's older brother Alexander Benthall (1834-1920) served inthe Confederate Army also, as a Corporal in Company "E", 51stTennessee Infantry. He was referred to by my great-gramma SarahJane as "Uncle Elek". He married Theodosia E. Johnson (called"Docie" in the marriage record, page 342 of the Book"M.R."-Marriage Records) on 22 Jun 1889 in Madison Co., TN, andthey had a son, John, b: 1894, d: aft. 1920, who is mentionedas "one afflicted child...13 years old...[a] boy" in hisTennessee Confederate Pension Application, dated 3 Aug 1907. Hisapplication was accepted, and he is Tenn. Confed. Pension #9409. [His app states "52nd" Tenn Regt., but the Company andCommanding Officers he mentions are definately of the 51stTenn.] He enlisted 3 Dec 1861. He was not wounded in anyBattles he was in, but rather contracted "dropsy" (probably anedema of some sort), and was Discharged at Corinth, MS in Apr1862, went home to Madison Co., TN, and remained there until theclose of the war, still somewhat incapacitated.
