Albert was a bridge-tender of the Burnside DrawBridge in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon. He did extensive research on the Shankland and Linn families, and claimed that "he worked about 12 minutes a day and devoted the rest of his working to genealogy". This database is based in a large part on his research which culminated in a typewritten book dated 1 Feb 1971.

 He married Grace Jordan (1894 NE - 1982) in 1916.

 In the 1930 census in Portland, there are listings for Albert B. Shankland 1896, Grace 1895, Clifford 1918, and Virginia 1922.
 "Dorothy Virginia "Ginger" Gibbons, 84, of Boise, Idaho, died Feb. 22, 2006. She was born to Albert Shankland and Grace Shankland on July 13, 1921 in Yacolt, Wash. When she was 6 years old the family moved to Portland, Ore. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1939. Her interests included fashion design and writing. She met Millard Gibbons at Highland Baptist Church and they married in 1941. They had two children: Michael and Laurie.The family moved to the Grande Ronde Valley just north of Cove, Oregon in 1965 and then to Cove in 1970 where they lived until Millard's health required him to be placed in a nursing home in 1991. Millard died in 1996. Ginger moved to Boise following a stroke in 2001...She is survived by her son Michael Gibbons and his wife Judy of Toledo, Ore.; her daughter Laurie of Boise; her grandchildren David Seaman and his wife Kris of Nampa, Idaho, and Diane Barker of Boise; her great-grandchildren Kayla, Courtney, D.J. and Jacob. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Grace, her brother Clifford, her husband Millard, many cousins and other relatives and friends." {Lincoln Co.
