Facts and Events
Information from Lisa Rich West; 1993; ALBERT AMERICUS RICH: ancedotes; A.A.'s mother died in January, 1850, and according to the 1850 and 1860 census, A.A. was living with his paternal Aunt, Olive P. Rich, and her husband Benjamin Hamilton. By the time of the 1870 census records A.A. was working as a farmhand at the home of Philo T. Leonard. Philo was the uncle of Julia L. Hamilton, whom A.A., was to marry in 1878. The Hamilton farm was located near the Leonard farm, so A.A. and Julia must have met due to their proximity and the family relationship between the Leonards and Hamiltons. Additionally, A.A. and Julia werre third of fourth cousins (both descended from children of Jonathan Willson and Lucy Blanding). A.A. lived in Pierrepont from 1845-1872, in 1872 he headed west, following an uncle (Charles Rich) and brother (Frankin Rich) to Bozeman, Mt. He returned to Pierrepont in 1878, married Julia L. Hamilton, then returned to Bozeman, and in 1880 settled a homestead near Hunter's Hot Springs. |
